On 30th September 2023, I will be walking 13 miles of the South Downs way from Seaford to Eastbourne for the Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma Fund at Blood Cancer UK. The walk is open to everyone and I’d be thrilled if you could join me. Register to walk here: https://lnkd.in/eEckhmwJ Start fund raising or donate here: https://lnkd.in/ewbgsDMh Thank you, together we can save lives for this incurable cancer.
“Hope is something that’s in short supply when you’re diagnosed with an incurable cancer.” Matthew Wilson was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma in 2021, just after the 2020 Covid lockdown. He was permanently exhausted and knew something was wrong. When he was told he had multiple myeloma he was completely devastated and felt as if everything he knew reversed overnight. “Everything you’ve known, everything you’ve planned, and everything you’ve dreamed of comes crashing down.” In the first few days he felt so ill he was certain he wasn’t going to make it. But as treatment began, he realised just how much he loved life and how much he wanted to live. Throughout his treatment journey he was inspired how healthcare professionals, research professors and charities all worked together to bring hope to those affected by blood cancer. We are honoured to be working with Matthew Wilson and his family and three years on from his diagnosis, have founded the Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma Fund which is offering hope and helping to change the lives of those affected with myeloma. We’re excited to say we’ve recently funded two incredible new research projects under this scheme. This first project will be led by Professor Karadimitris who’s research seeks to understand more about the key molecules that help myeloma cells to grow in number and thrive. https://lnkd.in/ehwG_m5Y The second will be led by Professor Chris Bunce who is looking to understand more about the causes of myeloma so new screening tools and drugs can be developed. https://lnkd.in/eYzp5ubF Their research is bringing us hope and helping to get us closer to a day where no lives are lost to blood cancer.
