Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there, across the natural world. This rare camera trap footage from the Mai Ndombe REDD+ project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo shows the innate, caring nature of bonobos. Like humans, bonobos' maternal instincts even extend to infants who are not their direct offspring. In 2021, scientists witnessed bonobo apes adopting infants who were born outside of their social group for the first time in the wild. No matter the species, mothers are critical to the survival of life on our planet, and deserve the utmost respect. Camera trap footage credit to our DRC Head of Biodiversity, Mattheiu Bolaa Bonkamba and his team. #conservation #wildlife #bonobo #mothersday
