Bold stepped Vision Canvas, A tool by the Grove that you can use to really create a compelling and interesting North Star. A vision for the future. A sense of the change that you want to be and the change that you want to make in the world. It's an incredible alignment tool as well. So when done in groups, this allows you and your team members to agree on what it is you're trying to achieve. So then the work that you do is all kind of going towards the same outcome and you're all pulling in the right direction together. So some of the. This is that you can do as I mentioned, it's a great alignment exercise. It's a great way to kind of determine that vision that you have. Fundamentally, it's an incredible onboarding tool. So it's a great way to take a new member on your team and sit them down and visually kind of go through what impact you're trying to make. So we'll take you through a little bit of the mechanics of how it works. So in the center here you have your kind of central mission, your overall impact again that change that you want to be what's the. Big kind of inspirational kind of goal that you're reaching for that around here, you have some themes that relate to this goal. So you're essentially adding color, you're filling in, you're adding detail to what that vision is. Some things to think about when you're doing these peripheral themes is it could be financial impact. So if you're for profit, you're launching a new product, service, whatever it is, is what kind of revenue are you trying to generate, for example. So what are we trying to do from a market sense? It could be geographic. Distribution. So maybe you're entering new markets, whatever it might be. So you want to think about where is your presence and how are you kind of growing your footprint locally, globally, etc. It could be an internal thing. How are you trying to influence other departments and become more of a strategic partner, less a service provider? So let's say you're an IT team or a marketing team and you want to be seen by a different group as providing more value, that sort of thing, so you can think about financial impact. Global change. You can think about how you are seeing with within the organization. It can be internal to the team. How do you want to grow? You have X number of new employees, that sort of thing. So you want to work through that add detail. Don't be shy and afraid of numbers here either. You can be as specific as you want to be. It just makes the clarity of that destination more robust and stronger. One thing that really helps when doing this is to timestamp it. So put a date on it so it could be two years down the road, 10 years down the road because your vision's. Would be very different in scale and quality depending on how far down the road you're going. But by agreeing on that time, you can, your mind's eye has something it can really focus on. So some tips when facilitating these conversations and when working with people. Really make sure that you get what's above the horizon, pretty crystal clear and exciting and done before you go to the gold steps, bold steps, so you don't want to kind of bounce back and forth between the actions and the destination. So really get that clear up there. Again, challenge your team on what bold is so you don't want to have just like a load of tactical things. You have to be careful in this exercise in particular of going down rabbit holes of wordsmithing. So particularly here, what's kind of like within the sun, which can be like a mission statement or can come across to people as almost a marketing phrase, that needs to be the be all end all. It has to be a really attractive, dynamic kind of beautifully worded phrase. You can spend days on the kind of the marketing wordsmithing part of it. Don't allow yourselves to do that. So just try to get what's fundamental and essential. Remind the team you can always go back and change it what you really want to be able to get into. Painting the picture and the detail up here and not just getting caught in the tagline, if you will, So the bold step canvas. It's an incredible tool for aligning your team on the shared vision. It's a great tool for preparing for pitches for buy in or investment. Because if you're trying to propose something to a group of people, whether they're internal or external investors, if they don't see a vision, if they're not excited about the future and the possibilities, it's going to be very difficult to get them on board and to want to invest. Time, money, resources in your idea. It's a great onboarding tool to quickly get people in line with. What's the point of your team? What are they joining? Why do you guys even work together? It's a great way to get. Kind of a pressure test on your strategic focus. So say, is this aligned with the larger organizational strategy? Does this make sense? So even if you feel like kind of ambiently, you guys have a vision as a team, it's really good to get it on paper, get it crystallized and really challenge yourselves. Are we working on things that matter? Is this right? And then I'd say a final thing is it's a great sandbox to play around as a kind of a precursor to a more graphic design one pager. Or artifact that summarizes your vision. So it's a great way to get the raw content and really wrestle with this incredibly big topic, which is what do we want to be, what is the change that we want to influence in the world, and what's the point of doing the work that we do? Very important questions. And if you don't have that vision as a team, you really run the risk of just just doing work for the sake of doing it. You run the risk of having different people on the team kind of being counterproductive to each other because they have different goals. So the goals and the visions are really important. It's necessary as a team to revisit this on occasion. Don't just build your vision and then drop it on a shelf. Dust it off every couple of months. Look at it, see if it's still right, edit it, modify it, and hopefully it will be something that continues to re energize you and keep the team focused. So it's a great tool.
