At Land & Water, we are constantly striving to think outside the box… ? A long-term goal of our founders Richard Melhuish and James Maclean has been to learn from the past and bring new technology to improve efficiency in our industry. ? This new drag box is based on traditional steam drag boxes of the past.?It is pulled by a hydraulic winch fitted onto a 28-tonne excavator as an attachment and depending on the density of the silt, the drag box can move between 5 and 10m3 of silt at a time, and has been moving 300m3 of silt in a 3 hour low tide window around 150 meters up the shore. ? The main benefits of this new and revolutionary method are its high levels of efficiency and low carbon output. ? Check out the dragbox being put to use in Chichester Harbour to complete trials in salt marsh restoration, in collaboration with Earth Change. #Dragbox #ChichesterHarbour #SaltMarshRestoration #Dredging #Efficiency #CarbonOutput #MoreThanDredging #EarthChange #Itchenor #SaltMarsh #SaltMarshTrials #Engineering #CivilEngineering #LowCarbon #ReachingHireStandards #RevolutionaryEngineering
Great idea!
Very clever thinking outside of the conventional box..
Remember seeing some of the cuts in capstones on sides of Victorian lakes where the wires had cut in during sled dredging, steam or horse! Great to see James & Richard’s brains still whirring!!

What a waste of a digger. Surely this winch could be mounted on some kind of skid/trailer or something
