Flower shipments by sea freight to reach new records in 2023 The volume of flowers shipped from Kenya to Europe by sea freight in 2022 was two to three times higher than the year before. Considering this steady growth, we expect sea freight volumes to reach new records in 2023, steadily reducing the industry’s carbon footprint and making it more future-fit. Adding sea freight to airfreight gives Kenya’s growers an important extra option for shipping their products to Europe. Without it, air freight cost and capacity limitations would prevent large quantities of flowers from ever reaching the market, forcing growers to throw them away before shipment. The use of sea freight in ’22 already added the equivalent of several airline flights per week in shipping capacity. The result, in addition to lower waste, is higher revenues and an improved carbon footprint. Using the latest science, data and technology, we ensure that flowers shipped by sea freight arrive at their destination in a perfectly fresh condition, often with a guaranteed vase life. It’s our way of helping flower industry leaders to drive the shift towards a more stable and sustainable future. Do you want to see the data behind sea freight’s successful increase?
