We are delighted to have played a role in contributing to the development of the Blue Carbon Principles that were officially announced at?#COP27?on the weekend. The principles were developed by World Economic Forum, Friends of Ocean Action,Salesforce,?Conservation International,?The Nature Conservancy, Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance, and Meridian Institute?among many others. High-quality nature-based carbon credits are not only a powerful tool for driving climate mitigation and resilience through the conservation and restoration of nature, but through this framework we can help ensure that these carbon credits optimize outcomes for people, nature, and climate in a transparent and equitable way. The framework covers five major principles: ?? Safeguards nature ?? Empowers people ?? Employs the best information and carbon accounting principles ?? Operates contextually and locally ? Mobilizes high integrity finance As the world looks for effective ways to combat the climate crisis, blue carbon – or the carbon captured and sequestered by marine ecosystems – is experiencing a particularly rapid increase in demand. And these principles provide a shared vision for achieving high-quality blue carbon projects and credits for all stakeholders.?
