Passionate about sharing stories from across the global business world

“????????’?? ???????? ???????????????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????? ????: ???????? ?????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I know our hearts are heavy this morning, as details, images and interviews have begun rolling in that painfully illustrate the extraordinary loss & destruction across Florida in recent days. Hurricane Ian isn't done yet, as it'll be making landfall again somewhere in South Carolina, north of Charleston. Back on September 21st, 1989, Hurricane Hugo made landfall just north of Charleston - - near the small town of McClellanville, SC. It was a devastating storm, much like we've seen in the last few days. We lived in Aiken, SC then, which was far enough inland to dodge the worst of Hugo. At the time, my father was in the middle of what would be a 33-year career serving in the South Carolina National Guard. As an engineering battalion, they'd be activated to help with recovery & relief operations. The storm had barely left the Lowcountry before Dad and his colleagues were getting to work: clearing roads, removing massive befallen trees (and more) from properties, etc. Dad would later speak about just how enormously grateful the residents & victims were of the National Guard's work. Many of these people lost nearly everything due to Hugo, but would somehow find food or drinks from their homes, to give to the hard-at-work troops. Remarkable. That was just the very beginning of a long road to recovery. Thanks to incredible first responders, the sheer will & resilience of South Carolinians - - and so much more - - the area would indeed recover, scars and all...while never, ever forgetting. Our prayers are with the good people & communities across Florida (and all those impacted by the storms), as they will persevere & rise again in similar fashion. But, they could use our help & resources. Here are a few trusted organizations that you might want to consider supporting: ? Kathy Fulton & the extraordinary team at American Logistics Aid Network help a wide variety of non-profits with logistics infrastructure to ensure aid gets to those in need: https://www.alanaid.org/ ? Convoy of Hope team members are now operating in Florida to coordinate distribution of aid: https://lnkd.in/gEGq5HTs ? The Hispanic Federation is working in Puerto Rico to address the immense need caused by Fiona & Ian: https://lnkd.in/gf-aG2Dd ? Direct Relief is active in Cuba to help those in need there, where Ian made its first landfall: https://lnkd.in/g_nv8-Ci Make a donation today, big or small - - as collectively, we can move mountains. #supplychain #HurricaneIan #HurricaneIan2022 #logistics Greg Kelly Kevin L. I just moved to Charleston and moved into my apartment 4 days before Hugo hit. By the grace of God I made it through the hurricane unscathed. Forever thankful to Jim Cox, Jan Schlau and Fred Chattey who got me out of harms way.

thanks for sharing Scott Luton, all the best to those affected. We were deployed to Sri Lanka as an emergency logistics response unit @ the 2004 Asian Tsunami that claimed 240,000 souls, it was time to step up. Hurricane Ian is brutal, at times like these members of the supply chain and logistics community always steps up. Im sure Supply Chain Now will do its part...Lock & Load Team ??

1900 Hurricane into Galveston was much worse. Thousands died. We are so lucky to live now w/ technology to warn us of impending disasters.

Thank you for this post and sharing resources Scott. It has been a long week in Florida with lots of destruction. There is damage across the state and many without power. Many Floridians in the south west have lost everything. Hitting land at a Cat 5 was something no one could plan for properly. We in Florida are now things of those in South Carolina. Again, thanks brother for the post.????

Another one I really like is World Central Kitchen- which serves hot meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. They are currently providing thousands of hot meals and sandwiches to those affected by Hurricane Ian in Florida and Puerto Rico- https://wck.org/
