Dear #FridayNightListeners, Let me come back to last week's post (https://bit.ly/38LQLkr) and the #Watergate around the #UEL final in #Seville. However, this is not about football per se. When we arrived at the fan festival at the Prado de San Sebastián at 3pm, the thermometer in the taxi showed 42 degrees, and so many fans took a siesta in the shade of the trees. And - highly unusual for such an event - beer consumption was quite low. Around 5.30pm, the fan march started towards the stadium in a good mood. But after about 2/3 of the way, the march was unexpectedly stopped several times by mounted police. The fans stood crowded on the tarmac, sometimes unprotected in the blazing sun for up to an hour. Lucky were those who still had something to drink. At the stadium around 7pm, we went straight to one of the kiosks inside. Two overworked service staff faced about 150 fans; it was agonisingly slow. About an hour later - water was sold out in the meantime - we were able to get hold of 3 coke - shortly afterwards all the soft drinks were out too. And not only at this kiosk, but the whole stadium was "dry". As a stopgap, people collected cups from the ground and tapped (chlorinated) water from the sinks; this was later turned off - allegedly due to a burst water pipe. Many people, old people, children, people with health problems, were thus sometimes dehydrated for up to 8 hours. Precisely because the organising #UEFA, usually prescribes every little detail, many are asking why there was such poor planning here, given that the temperatures and crowds were known in advance and it was not just a health topic, but also an issue of security? It is due to the prudence of the fans of both clubs - #Rangers & #Eintracht - that the atmosphere did not tip over. Nevertheless, one thing must of course be clear: We all knew we were going to get something again, sooner or later. But around 2.2 billion people worldwide do not have regular access to clean water and suffer from water shortages and poor hygiene. Around 785 million people do not even have a basic supply of drinking water. Be it through war or other conflicts or droughts. And all this is dramatically exacerbated by the #climate crisis. Without clean water and hygiene, diseases spread particularly quickly. "Bring Me Some Water" is a classic rock song with some blues themes by American singer Melissa #Etheridge from 1988. Actually, its content is about love and jealousy - but the title just fit too well, didn't it? By the way: If you want to learn more about why investments in #water infrastructure are so urgently needed and how you can support the #UN #SustainableDevelopmentGoals, to be precise #SDG No.6 "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all", you may find inspiration here: https://bit.ly/3Gaw0v6 (For professional investors in Europe only. Nice story and thanks for highlighting the problems? of water access? for e.g. in? ?development countries? because of climate change...Would have shared a water melon (not only in the heat) with you for this rocking song.???? By reading your post I thought back to a controversial event - the opening match between ???? and ???? in the world championship '74 in Frankfurt when the floods felt down from the sky and the field was more a swamp.? ??
Great storytelling, Oliver S. Bauer ..... and lucky us that we know that we won' t suffer a water and/or food outage (at least today), but we never should forget about the always existing possibility of suffering this. The problem exists, in another part of the World, yes, but....there it is. Hace a great weekend. Greetings from Madrid (????).
Very good bridge that you build here to take awareness for the 2.2 billions which suffer a permanent lack of supply Oliver S. Bauer. Nice choice of song - as usual and hopefully meet you sson for a "live reportage" of your adventure trip!
One very Importamt topic why we should do more to protect climate and why the ESG initiative of EU including ESG in investing and advise is Important and one more step Oliver S. Bauer and Generally: this ist a nice and thoughtful piece as every week
