In the early days of the pandemic, low-wage workers were deemed heroes for working on the front lines and keeping the global economy moving. But since 2020, there has been a trend in those same workers choosing to forego the ever-changing schedules, less-than-workable pay scales and lack of respect that comes with many frontline jobs. Look across the U.S. economy, and you’ll find waves of people who started out in frontline careers like customer service only to pivot into different, more promising roles. And LinkedIn has the data showing where those former frontliners found new work. Between 2019 and 2021, real estate and equipment rental services has become the fastest growing destination (+15.2%) for people jettisoning old frontline jobs. Construction (+12.1%) ranked second. Both those fields have enjoyed boom conditions as median U.S. housing prices in the past two years have soared 25%. Also showing double-digit growth are pivots into three other fields. Technology, information and media leads the pack at 11.2% growth. Nearly as strong are transportation, logistics and storage (+10.7%) and farming, ranching and forestry (+10.2%). For more on this trend — and real-life examples of people who have successfully pivoted — read the latest edition of LinkedIn’s Workforce Insights newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ghWguyiy How will these pivots affect the U.S. economy? And what can be done to make frontline work more attractive to job seekers? Share your thoughts in the comments.? ?? : George Anders and McKenna Moore ?? : Alejandra Budar

I’ve been in the construction trade since I was fifteen I’m versed in all the the trades of general residential construction. I’ve had steady work throughout my life even through bad economy. There’s always somebody out there spending money money If they’re not building new they’re remodeling the old Being able to perform all the trades is a big plus Homeowners aren’t trying to hunt 5 different subcontractors and schedule them at the right time to come in and get the job done I’ve seen the decline in the labor force I would suggest that a young man willing to put in the time and effort to learn the trades would make it back ten fold In ten yrs there will be nobody in the construction trades to take the place of men such as me I’m sixty. Slowing down. I would say get in learn it all and in ten yrs you could call your own price I make a hundred to hundred and fifty k a year. I luv what I do and that’s a big key to being successful. I haven’t worked a day in my life. I get up and go do what I luv to do. I just happen to get paid for it

The seasons change. The new becomes the old and the change over takes place. Kids move into entry level jobs such as cust. service and food, and the prior entry level persons transfer into position that are a bit more refined. Its what happens. We can't all work fast food forever. It's not a conspiracy. We consistantly learning and growing. We just need people to actually work. IF EVERYONE WANTS THE SAME JOB, Then no one will take the other jobs that are in demand. More over i believe this is a supply and demand issue. We just dont have the people to fulfill the roles currently.?

It makes me sad to think that restaurant workers are still quitting in huge numbers and many more of the great neighborhood spots will probably have to shut down. It's the small local businesses that have been hit so hard and will continue to struggle that will change the economy of small towns as well as larger cities. I pray that more young people start farms, and the US can start to grow more of its own food. This would surely help the economy. The rents are crazy high where I live in San Antonio, TX, and the "front line" jobs (retail, restaurant, and many office positions) do not pay anywhere near the amount that people need to live on. If the minimum wage went up to $15/hour, it would be interesting to see how many younger people would flock back to the retail and restaurant scene. I'm on social security and work a part-time Monday through Friday retail job and have enough to get by, but not enough to go on vacation (last vacation was 1999). I'm looking forward to trying to get my own company started by year end to create and sell my art. I pray for all Americans in this unsettled economy we are experiencing right now. ??

Although not a frontline worker, as of June 6, 2022 I will be starting a Real Estate school with Century 21 Americana to become licensed in NV. Now, I do like the idea of jumping in at the TOP of a list that has "growth!" Wish me luck!
