I am grateful for the opportunity to host discussion sessions on the?PBS?film series Asian Americans. A few reflections on Episode 4 – Generation Rising: 1) Demand for multicultural studies – It was inspiring to see college students advocate for curriculum that reflected their lives and a better representation of faculty of color. lnkd.in/dx8nnQh 2) The Vietnam War (referred as the American War in Vietnam) – Asian Americans who served in the U.S. military faced racial and traumatic challenges. Instead of being celebrated for their patriotism, their faces were often used to depict the faces of the enemy. lnkd.in/d--5-Sr 3) The Anti-War Movement – Many Asian Americans drafted to serve by the military spoke out against the war along with other veterans when they came back from their tour of duty. lnkd.in/d_rC7Yh 4) Social activism – Through protests, Asian Americans worked together with people from different racial and ethnic groups to seek justice through social activism. Larry Itliong led Filipino farmworkers to form a coalition with Mexican American workers to create the United Farm Workers Union and strike. This led to the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act of 1975 to provide collective-bargaining powers. lnkd.in/dd2PDrT #APAHM | #AAPIHeritageMonth | #AsianAmPBS
