This very image below is the same image I mirrored onto the TV screen in my classroom this morning, while explaining to my Grade 4 students, "This is the Prefrontal Cortex". We proceeded to look at several more diagrams on #Google Image, showing the brain from various angles. "The Prefrontal Cortex is where your brain learns from. This is where your thinking connects to your brain. When you are learning, this is that part of your brain that is growing." As my friend and inspiration Gavin McCormack would say, kids love a good fact. They absolutely loved this fact, Wide-eyed. "When you are sitting at your tables, doing your best, challenging yourself, with helpful thoughts, this is the part of your brain that is learning and growing. Learning. Is. Real." As I gaze over their sea of faces, reading their expressions and body language, taking in the feedback from their non-verbal cues, I could see their eyes fixated on the screen, mesmerised by the bumps and curves making a hypnotic maze-like pattern. They were inspired. They can now visualise how their thoughts and learning link directly to their physical brain. #education #neuroscience
Dear LinkedIn network, please click here for my article that discusses my second lesson about how we to use prefrontal cortex in our learning, by becoming aware of our fears and having a Mindfulness Mindset. Hope you enjoy it. https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/dignity-fear-mindfulness-mindset-harsharan-kaur-sokhi/?published=t
Well done Harsharan Kaur Sokhi ?? ?? I am sure your students love you ??
I love this so much. As they get older and learn about emotional intelligence or fight/flight principles, they can remember this lesson. Then when we tell them to choose to activate their pre-frontal cortex in times of struggle, they will be able to visualize that action. Then they can respond cognitively instead of reacting emotionally. Thank you for sharing this.
Love this
