What are the main qualities of a successful CFO? CFOs have to wear many hats and depending on the company, its stage in the lifecycle, and the economy at large some hats must be worn more than others. However, are there qualities that are always needed to be successful? I could name a few at least... > Financial savviness as after all this should be their strongest tool in the toolbox > Influential as the CFO must have a say in all important decisions made in the company > Transformational considering the only thing that is constant is change > Social since key to influencing and being impactful is the ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and employees alike The CFO has the opportunity to be the most impactful person in the company if playing her cards right. It is not an easy role though as the demands increase by the day - fail to deliver on them and other functions will figure it out for themselves... So tell me, what are the most important things CFOs should do to be successful and what qualities will enable them to get it done? #cfo #finance #accountingandaccountants #financemaster

Being the financial gate keeper CFO must be ready to support and challenge too. Should not allow to compromise long term objectives for short term gains. Must be honest and straightforward to promote transparency in decision making....
The CFO should focus more, in addition to financial, cash flow and bugeting and planning, on internal control and the governance of the company and to be independence as much as he can from taking the decision. He/she should show what’s going on and then give recommendations to make sure that the goals are achieved properly with lowest cost and high quality.
Such a great post, Anders. And a great list. A good CFO should definitely be much more than a numbers cruncher. And as you described, have a lot of business acumen and be really good in strategy. The CEO and CFO should be able to work hand in hand to make the business grow. Great input, thanks.
