"I will have to remember ‘I am here today to cross the swamp, not to fight all the alligators." How often do we get distracted from the goal of crossing the swamp - delivering #business ROI? We spend our energies trying to tackle every alligator that comes our way - getting carried away by technical solutions, trying to perfect the #algorithms, or obsessing over tactical stuff. This quote by Ben Zander from "The Art of Possibility" is profound. Which alligators should #data leaders watch out for? #analytics #datascience

In fact, similar challenges do persist while negotiating with clients - in general & more so during analytics engagements! One of the learnings which worked for me in the past is - "Always focus on the goal/objective" and "not on who is right/wrong" (Getting rid of our ego is really not that easy :) ) Negotiation (not hard / not soft) - Helps us to cross the swamp without/with less distractions :)

We need to have this printed and stuck on our walls! Additionally : 1)Not enough attention paid to the software engineering and IT infrastructure needs to go live. (The article you referred to in one of your earlier posts- https://hbr.org/2020/06/the-dumb-reason-your-ai-project-will-fail ) 2) User adoption gaps include handholding for live data feeds through the data pipeline, support for the software application on which AI layer was built and end user training on how to use the application effectively 3) Focus on building jazzy UI without keeping business user needs in mind.

Nice one! Thanks for sharing

Ganes, based on whatever I have seen/experienced, 1) Analysis Paralysis 2) Trying to make the solution more complex unnecessarily 3) Give more priority to tools & theory than solving the business problem (not being pragmatic) 4) Not understand what are we trying to solve for and straight away jump to analysis/ model creation 5) Poor articulation (business problem to data problem to data solution to business solution)
