There are days I don’t find the motivation to do anything ‘productive’ ?? But when this extends for days at a stretch, I get quite worried ?? There are 3 hacks that have helped me get out of a bad productivity patch: 1. Identify small wins: When it gets daunting to even think about a big project, I break it into tiny goals. Finishing 30 min targets reminds you what success feels like. It slowly builds up the momentum, again. 2. Commit publicly: In such times, I really wish that someone follows up and holds me accountable. Voluntarily committing to people at work, or on LinkedIn can set this up for you. The social pressure can do wonders to restart the engine! 3. Read and visualize goals: Reading my yearly goals out loud every day helps me focus. It breathes life back into it. I learned this tip from ‘Think and Grow Rich’ and loved it. Napoleon asks you to ‘visualize, feel and smell’ your goals as if you are already living it as a reality. It has a strange power. More so when you are feeling down. What hacks work for you? Any other tips to pull yourself out of a bad patch? #selfhelp #productivity
Thanks for sharing the Napoleon Hill quote. "Visualize, feel and smell your goals as if you are already living it as a reality."
Great piece, Ganes. My two cents - There are days/times when you just can't help it. As a marketer, dealing with creative block at times can be frustrating. I follow and also suggest my teams to procrastinate, but do it in a productive way. I call it the 'Productive Procrastination'. Look for something specific that doesn’t have to do with your work, so that it can put your mind at ease. My favorites are, writing a song or watching something at Mindvalley. That way, I feel a lot more energized and focused afterwards :)
Yes prolonged productivity-paralysis can be maddening! These are great tips!
I focus on identifying small wins and start my day by visualizing my goals. Whenever I'm feeling stressed/down I remind myself on the goals, if time permits take short breaks (15-30 min) to read/watch something fun and get back to the grind :)
Thanks for sharing such a valuable skill to learn ??
Awesome sir, I felt the same during the last extended weekend...!! Was trying to read on net around resolving this issue and suddenly read your post..!! One more point, although almost an extension of your point of committing publicly. I think, the direction in which one is planning to move, its better to join public communities/ groups/ forums. If, on some days, one is not moving ahead, just by participating on such forums the lost spark can be regained quickly!!
I love the second hack. I've also used that to put ideas into action. I usually have a strong inflow of ideas but slack in execution. Socializing ideas, getting more people onboard and committing publicly helps me speed up on execution and get faster results.
As always your ideas are practical and executable .
