The first clue is in the 'I help...' headline. The second is a 'personalized' but generic invitation. This scenario has played out many times before...it's neither new or clever. It's just annoying! Don't get me wrong...not every 'I help' headline is from a bot using spammer and not every generic invitation is followed by a question that is clearly a precursor to some kind of pitch. but... If you use these tactics, your intentions can easily be misread because we've all seen it happen so many times before. ??Be original with your headline - don't follow the crowd ??Always tailor your invitation message to the person you are wanting to connect with. ??Never use bots (you are likely to get banned by LinkedIn) ??Never outsource your LinkedIn to a 3rd party unless you are 100% sure you can trust them not to use bots (or look like they are) ??Always engage and build a relationship with someone before pitching them. #bestadvice #linkedintips #careeradvice
Thanks Mark, I just changed my headline as it had... I help ?? hopefully that's better
I do believe there are people who train these tactics Mark Williams - it is so frustrating when I see the results of some of these. I keep on educating as you do, it is the best way we can tackle the bots.
Mark, anytime I get an invitation that even smells of someone trying to get to my connections to sell them something, I shut it down immediately. Sometimes it comes in a connection request, sometimes in a DM. In either case, bye-bye!! Most often it starts....I looked at your profile and see that we have lots of contacts in common...or we operate in the same space... All lead to bye-bye. Thanks for pointing this out to EVERYONE..BEWARE!!! :)
This is a 'must share' Mark, as it is the most creative post/video on this subject, which affects us all! I'll offer the document I finally put together as a 'response' to the 'pitch invitations' I receive. It satisfies my need to 'inform & educate' right before I block or report the really annoying ones! LOL
Mark Williams changing my stuff up. And yes to not following a crowd! Bust the box.
Very funny and so true Mark ??. Ps am absolutely loving your podcast, been listening to it flat out the last month or so ????
Fantastic video. And so true. Many of my DMs seem so generic and phony unless they use something personal that they have extracted from my profile.
Great video and great questions Mark Williams! Interestingly, I mentioned something similar to this in my Advanced LinkedIn workshop last night - our strategy is to consider the invite, study the profile, and then decide. I always say - "Let's create the network we deserve" - and we can build a high quality, high volume network that is a lot more than being on the receiving end of any kind of sales pitch.
I just say no thank you normally, if not appropriate. But the other day in a more gullible moment I said yes to a connection. Instantly I was being advised to get into crypto (Krypto) currency. I have the investment profile of a snail, so I just disconnected. The person got the message that I was not interested.

4 年Great post Mark and talking of bots, I’m kind of hoping this is a bot message I received today and not the reality of my profile?!?? Thanks for connecting, Steve! I spend a LOT of time on LinkedIn, and after reviewing tons of profiles, it looks like yours can use a little tune up ??. If you're using LinkedIn for your business, here's a quick video that can help you get the most of it: (Video link removed to protect the perpetrator!??) If you're not using LinkedIn for business, just let me know, and you can ignore this ?? I have replied to this person’s message, suggesting he does a little more ‘reviewing’!!
