Great presenters make their talks look so effortless and natural. What does it take to make a speech that’s smooth, funny, and insightful? Weeks of preparation. For really good ones, it may take a few months. You must start with an understanding of the audience and what would work with them. Pick a good topic and build your content by doing your background research. The storyline of your talk can make or break it. Think of the emotional arc and how you will excite your audience. What will keep them on the hook and not reach for their mobile? When you have all this in place, then it’s all down to delivery. How well have you internalized your talk? What's the speaking pace and pitch variations? Do you use too many fillers? A talk may not be scripted, but it has to be rehearsed. Over and over again. What about the TED Talks that are no more than 10 minutes, but get millions of views? The shorter the talk, the longer you must prepare! What are your favorite talks? Which are the ones you’ve shared the most with others? Please add them to the comments. #publicspeaking #communication #presentationskills
