?? ? ?? Lemons to Lemonade: IYA Studio for Actors, Toronto ?? ?? Tony Babcock has been my go-to acting coach for 6 years. His workshops are HANDS-ON, engaging, HIGHLY interactive, & effective. In 2014, determined to devote quality time to acting, I gave myself a gift. I cleared my calendar for 12 Fridays. The weekly full-day IYA conservatory classes were a game-changer professionally & personally. At IYA Studio, I've taken improv classes & audition classes. In the Film Masterclass, we created & shot a movie. Fast forward to 2020. Acting Studios in Toronto are closed during COVID-19. Tony had produced web series so he was well-positioned to pivot to the new reality. He offers classes & private coaching virtually including: ?? The Authentic Actor ?? Rich AF Actor Break the Broke Actor Cycle! ?? Rejection-Proof Actor Are you an actor who wants to keep your instrument in tune during self-isolation? Have you secretly wanted to explore acting? These are the concrete steps that IYA Studio owned by Tony Babcock is taking to support Black Lives Matter. "It is not enough to not like racism, or subtly oppose it, we must TAKE ACTION and there is so much more we can do. This is how IYA Studio for Actors is taking action: ? We have donated to Black Lives Matter Toronto and will continue to donate each month.?https://blacklivesmatter.ca/donate/ ? We have signed various petitions to support the #BLM movement and surrounding initiatives ? We are educating ourselves deeply in what it means to be an anti-racist organization and we plan to take appropriate action to do our part to stop racism.? ? We will begin featuring BIPOC actors on our weekly blog. ? We have committed to giving all BIPOC actors 15% off all of our courses & coaching from this point forward ? We will ensure that all of our materials, courses, and programs are free of systemically oppressive language.? ? We will use our platform to spread awareness, resources, and action steps to our community.? ? We commit to being a safe space for our black and BIPOC actors, where they are free to express themselves free of oppression.? ? We will continue asking questions and finding new ways to take action."
Interesting! As a working actor for a decade, hands-on learning is key, but it doesn't need to be done face to face, clearly. In fact, you don't even need to be an actor to consider these classes, I think. This skill set has had a HUGE transference to my professional career, and being able to present ideas in an engaging and concise way.
Jordyn Dahl I am doing a whole series on businesses pivoting to survive. In fact, I was one of the first members on here to do a series about this. I post every Wednesday.
