O'Reilly Media announced closure of their live conf business. It's sad to see #covidcrisis hitting events like Strata & AI conf ???? I've spoken at a couple of their events in London and San Jose. I've considered theirs to be one of the best tech events out there With events mass canceled due to #coronovirus, the events industry is one of the most hit ?? #SXSW, the event that saw 280,000 participants in 2019 was canceled, reportedly leading to layoffs of one-third of their employees ?? With the event calendar getting cleaned out until July-Aug, it's unclear whether the ones later in the year will survive ?? What's very clear is that the in-person events business will be permanently changed. In spite of when things get normal. The optimist in me thinks that online events may not be a bad second choice, after all. Who thought that online and social discussions can be so engaging and enriching? It took us a while to get here. Perhaps, it's time for #eventplanning businesses to innovate and evolve ??
Or it would be the case that people would like to attend more in-person events as they bounce back from isolation? Event companies will have to be engaged with their audience via digital mediums till this lasts though. More podcasts, more videos, more interviews beamed live, more content on relevant social media channels with focus on continuing to help their audience grow and continuing to give them value. 4 年Ganes Kesari great point re: event planning businesses and the call for more innovation. Along with that I hope this also allows for employers to rethink flex work / remote work options and its benefits. I think post pandemic will be a great time for new models of success to emerge.
