Being a radiologist at the #ETZ Hospital I can see that the number of CT scans with Covid-19 images is growing spectacularly, even with patients without clinical suspicion or with a negative RT-PCR test. Many hospitals are making the same observation. The number of institutions using CT to screen patients suspected of carrying the virus is increasing, although the technique is not advocated everywhere as primary screening technique for that purpose. The image below is a CT-scan requested for a patient that was suspected of pulmonary embolism! With my background as "AI believer" and chairman of #EuSoMII, I decided to launch an international research AI-project on CT for COVID-19 together with my colleague Laurens Topff from the #NKI-AVL (Amsterdam). With the collaboration of #EuSoMII, several European institutions and the financial and logistic support of Jonathan Berte, CEO of #Robovision and ángel Alberich-Bayarri, CEO of #Quibim, we will train an algorithm with CT images, with the intention of facilitating the diagnosis of COVID-19 with CT and allowing us to make a correct assessment of the degree of lung impairment. This will be an exciting European project, and we hope to achieve results within 1 month. We're ready to start. Thumbs up for us!

Hi Erik R. Ranschaert, MD, PhD, last two months have passed like a lightning... For some reason I have missed results of you project. Can you share some metrics on how your model is performing? Have you covered segmentation or classification task?

Scanned a patient last night, presenting with appendicitis like symptoms. Turns out to have pneumonia like changes to lungs and thickening of bowel wall in places. Looking like Covid-19 positive. More and more arriving asymptomatic for Covid and presenting with other issues who turn out to be Covid-19 positive.

Great Initiative Erik!, It would be great if this AI technology could be extended to POCUS monitoring of the lungs in ICU patients with ARDS due to COVID-19 : see https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2776-2780.pdf Any thoughts on that? Thanks and good luck, Stephan
