YOU ARE MORE THAN JUST YOUR CAREER. You are a whole person who holds multiple titles and plays many roles in addition to “professional.” I am a father, I recently became a husband (2/15/2020 ??), I’m a brother, a son…a career coach, & more. My profession does not define me or you as much as selecting any one of my roles does, because I bring all of who I am to whatever I’m doing. While not every part of your identity is always salient, you don’t stop being a whole person when you are job searching, switching careers, or trying to get a promotion. Your life circumstances may very well be the driving force behind some of these ???? career changes. Give yourself permission to take into consideration *all of who you are* when planning or seeking help to make career moves because that is the path toward achieving satisfaction. I don't like the concept of "balance" because it's hard both to achieve & maintain. Satisfaction is more stable & sustainable. Here are some helpful guiding questions ??: ?? "Am I moving toward satisfaction?" ?? "How does this help/hinder how my life works?" ?? "Am I being true to myself and my needs?" What other holistic questions would you suggest we ask ourselves when considering career moves? #careerdevelopment #jobsearch #careeradvancement
This is exactly what I am working towards. I always felt it was one or the other and I was so stressed. Now in 2020 I have a new mindset. Others may not get it but it looks so beautiful. Not there yet but getting there.
I agree Nii Ato Bentsi-Enchill? It's important that what brings us joy, supports our personal values and allows us to grow is well integrated across all areas of life. Work is only one domain. When various aspects of life fall out of alignment and no longer fit our priorities, that's when we feel stressed, drained, out-of-balance and dissatisfied.
Well said!
One job won't fulfill all of you is what I'm hearing you say Nii Ato Bentsi-Enchill And that's such a great reminder. Even our last job wasn't all-fulfilling! Satisfaction over perfection!?
Another question you can ask is, "Does this align with my values?" I find a lot of career changers are transitioning because they're not seeing any good in what they do on a daily basis. Great post Nii Ato Bentsi-Enchill

4 年The holistic career question I suggest is 'What contribution do I want to make to the world?' Answering this makes a real difference in setting goals, staying on track and feeling aligned.
