FUTURE REMOTE TOWER Established systems such as the Remote Tower demonstrate the potential of digital remote surveillance of aerodromes. In this project, in cooperation with DLR (German Aerospace Center), different interaction concepts were developed using various use cases for the remote monitoring of one or more airfields using VR tools. This study first examined how the tasks of an AFISO (Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer) can be implemented in virtual reality. The focus of the work was on the conception of two interaction concepts, which deal with ergonomic and usability relevant aspects of the interaction with the HMI, as well as the workplace design. As part of the project, extensive user interviews and workload analyzes were carried out. As a result, two VR prototypes were developed and tested and evaluated in a series of experiments at DLR's research center in Braunschweig with pilots (ATCO) and AFISOs.
