HOW TO SHOW EMPLOYERS YOU'RE CREATIVE | #DailyBurk | 053019 On resumes and in interviews, it's best to link creativity to problem solving. Think back to your past work history. Where did you find a solution that others didn’t see? How did your unique perspective help the team? And of course, what measurable effect did that have for the organization. Tease these problem-solving highlights on your resume and be prepared to share stories in the interview that provide more detail. Make sure you’re ready to tell the story in a three-act structure: what you task you faced, how you respond, the positive (and measurable) result. You can’t just say ”I’m creative” in the interview; you can prove your creativity by showing how you’ve used it.

Great advice David! I like to say experience is best demonstrated through tangible examples of completed projects based on creative solutions with measurable outcomes.

Right on the money David Burkus. I continue to be surprised by how many interviewees are not prepared to share examples of their successes.

David, this is a great post and so true.? I would also add those creative ideas that didn't work out.? For example, "I suggested trying ABC process.? Although it didn't work, it did get the team thinking in another direction and ultimately, achieve success.? My boss was impressed".? Granted, having successful creativity is best, but even failures demonstrate that you can and do think creatively.??

Good advice David!?These kinds of generalizations, like simply calling ourselves creative, aren't helpful. It seems like we tend to do this with "soft skills," like saying we are good with people or we are easy to get along with.? Attributes we tie to "hard skills" ?(e.g. software proficiency, program languages, etc.) connect more easily to quantitative results. But the ability to connect "soft skills" to measurable results could easily be something that sets you apart from other candidates.
