Nurses, already in short supply, have authorized a lot of hospital strikes over the past couple years. Pay and health benefits are part of the issue, but understaffing is the driving force. https://lnkd.in/eruzswM

Nurses are striking, and it's usually because they feel understaffed

Cna's struggle under all this as well, patient to aide ratios can get ridiculous and increase the risk of falls, injury or the missing of key changes in vitals... The entire system is top heavy and needs reevaluated.?

Not surprised. After 25 years, I am done. Lack of respect and value. Many issues. #1 nurses want to be able to fight safe care for their patients. Nurses want to work in a safe environment.#. 2 want good health benefits. Think about all the exposures to disease infections and chemicals they come in contact with. Think about all the repetitive movement, patience the lack of help.Poor ergonomics. Larger patients. Retirement benefits. Your want to be caring and compassionate. Are you noticing it’s not about the money but the environment. It’s about getting the education you need as things change. It is about working in a professional environment captains to Petland to our degree are experience and our dedication. It is one of the only profession swear the more education you have them experience you have the more time you have makes little difference. Did you know that if you transfer to a different unit are you cut your new hospital you go to the bottom of the barrel back tonight. Did you know get a masters or doctorate Paris bring to less money in the workplace put my loans to pay off? If nurses are striking they have reason and the reason is these people who think that nurses just sit around and play cards… That has never been my experience I come home tired sweaty happy missed brakes only to be told where are you get paid for it A lot of this starts with an ministration and poor management. Think about this the next time you’re hospitalized and you see everything the nurse does and be glad they’re there to protect youyour si

Understaffing and added responsibilities with increased patient loads and then staff is hounded if this carries them into overtime. If a nurse is not addicted to nicotine, requiring smoke breaks, then breaks are close to non-existent. Lunches are generally 30 minutes and taking time to obtain food, place to sit and then food is eaten way too fast for maintaining adequate digestion with no time to relax. For the caregivers to be required to move at moc speed on the busy units and maintain a safe and productive work environment is the daily challenge. Moving from the 8 hour shift to the 12 hour shift was supposed to be the real deal for more days off. By the third day, amounting to 36 hours and overtime if unavoidable, and little sleep by the time you get home and take care of chores, meals plus the commute, the first day off you are beat, on autopilot, so you really still have only two days off where you feel normal again, unless you are in your twenties and still brimming full of hormones/energy. Who really won by switching from 8 to 12 hour shifts? The facilities who then needed a few less personnel.

Safe patient care is all most Nurses want so that we can get a good sleep at the end of our shift without thinking about what we left undone.

Nursing is a tough job with a heavy workload when do we have time to even give a hug or even a small conversation

Maybe it is also the derogatory comments from "people in power" regarding Dr. Stethoscopes and card games. These degrading comments are NOT OK. #respecteachother #yourhealth #wesavelives #nursesunite
