Hey there! If you're like me, creating a video like this feels like such an achievement. It's just hard to get focused on just talking to to a lens, knowing that ultimately people are going to be watching it. What's funny is I know that there's a bunch of us out there. Me, in particular, I've been making videos all year. Almost every day I'm making a short video using fantastic tool called Loom to record how to's and walkthroughs, and send them over to clients. But you get in this situation, and you're talking to a lens and you're imagining your friends and your network watching on the other side, and you freeze up. And nothing flows. And you're talking about all kinds of other stuff... Well, one one trick or tip that has been hugely valuable is the seven second rule. You know how people say that we have the attention spans of goldfish? Or even shorter than goldfish? They will pay attention to stuff longer than we will. Right. And they're notoriously spastic (don't quote me). I'd like to just throw in a comeback to that. And it's not that we have shorter attention spans. I think that it's just we have so much to pay attention to, that we prioritize right what we're going to be focusing on. So if something isn't immediately and very quickly interesting, or valuable, we're gonna bounce. We're gonna move on. And that's why when it comes to making video, especially your first seven seconds are a critical time. Because if someone;s scrolling through their feed, they're gonna pause for maybe seven seconds (maybe three), identify if this worth my time, or am I going to be happier if I keep scrolling. So that's why starting with a clear question, or a value point, or something warm and friendly, you know, (like me) is an easier way to draw people in, and and help them commit to taking the next step, which is either watching your video, or reading the rest of your content. So number one: how do you get people to stick around a little longer? Lead with a valuable question. Don't make the mistake of spending a full 10 seconds to actually get into what's valuable. Leading with your name or like "hey guys and I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing here but I hope that this is valuable..." Don't do that. You don't have a lot of time So grab interest. Ask a question, especially if you're creating value by helping, or giving a tip or something, and then move on. Get into it quickly and then (this is a format that I'm now trying to follow) end with giving your name. So I'm Dominic.
