The silos are out to get us! Over 80% of digital transformations have or are failing. There is a common reason for these failures which is that they fail to change the organisation structure to properly empower and support multi-disciplinary teams. Having spotted this pattern I’ve been working to understand why it happens and what can be done to enable successful Digital transformation. The result is this beta white paper. https://lnkd.in/gfG8aFb #digitaltransformation #gds #silo #multidisciplinaryteams
One issue is, "We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them." -Einstein In most digital transformations, most of people in higher level of hierarchy are still there, and they still have influence on changes.
Hey Jeremy - great stat to start with: whats the source?
That points to the right direction (once known as matrix organization) and could go still further by taking advantage of digitized environments and flows on one hand, economic intelligence on the other hand:.? Drawing value chains between processes and EA capabilities would translate into agile matrix organizations https://caminao.blog/2018/10/12/value-chains-ea/ Bringing information systems and context-based ontologies under a common conceptual roof would provide enterprises with built-in business cunning and self learning capability. https://caminao.blog/knowledge-architecture/ontologies-ea/
Excellent paper Jeremy. Very insightful and convincing. I cannot agree more with point number 4, I.e. meaningful transformation cannot happen unless appropriate org structure changes are made to remove functional silos, it worse, a matrix structure. In my view, lack of courage and conviction for making this difficult but needed change is one of the primary reasons for transformations not translating into meaningful outcomes or not being able to sustain them.
Thanks Mark and that’s a very interesting thought. Let’s grab a coffee to discuss
Totally agree Jeremy. Organisational structure, and responsibility/accountability for the change are key. Oh, and rather than prioritising it below becoming #regulatory compliant try to use the #regulations as a catalyst for the change.
Strategy - Leadership - Transformation
