The rest of the world should be paying very careful attention to this, what a forward thinking country.
So going Dutch in a country where the sun shines a bit more often should do the trick?
Being Dutch, since two years living and working in Australia, I can't help but wonder how these work vs leisure hours have been measured? I worked full-time in NLD and am still doing so in AUS. My experience is that the life-work balance in AUS is a lot better then in NLD, one of the main reasons I moved to AUS. To me, working in NLD was a continuous and ever accelerating "rat-race" and working weeks from 45-50 hours were more the rule than an exception. I'm also not convinced that the life-expectancy is related to the this alledged better life-work balance. I think that the exceptional high standard and affordability of nutrition and the excellent health-care have far more influence on this.
In my work as Agile Coach i found the same: overtime does not work, as it isn't sustainable. Next day, next Sprint the speed suffers, even more than what you gained. So total effectiveness is negative. Disclamer: I'm Dutch ??
Surprisingly, Israelis life expectancy is longer than Dutch (https://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/israel-life-expectancy) even though we work a lot of overtime... Maybe the consequences are yet to come :-(
Obviously volunteer works isnt included in this assessment. Almost everyone I know spends an extra 10-20 hours a week, on top of their normal (usually full time) job, doing volunteer work of some sort.
The official allowed length of hours oer week is 36 hrs to maximum 40. Nobody works over time.
Panayiotis Kiliaris Christos Kyprianouonly 1% works more than 50 hours a week
Working overtime is fooling yourself and your boss. (I'm Dutch :-))
