I *finally* was able to check a trip to the Mall of America off my bucket list as a retail reporter this past week. I'm curious to see how future Triple Five Group projects — like the American Dream development in New Jersey — pan out. (No, I didn’t ride the roller coasters on this trip ... next time!) What do you think: If you’ve been to MOA before, what was that experience like? Can projects like this continue to thrive in today’s retail environment?
Did you check out Gameworks and Smaaash?
Lauren Thomas malls have to continue to be innovative and keep changing with the trends or boring retail will die. Malls strive in communities where there are no mountains or beaches to go to like my hometown Dallas. I started my first part of career in the mall development and haven’t heard of any new mall projects from the ground up these days like in the 80’s and 90’s. Outdoor malls with unique concepts are booming. Come visit us in Dallas and I’ll show you the latest and greatest retail projects.
Lauren Thomas ; I was there during last years Super Bowl and it never fails to amaze. But, the best is yet to come. The Ghermezian family invented #ExperientialRetail and the rest of the world is just now catching up. Lauren- Can’t divulge too much detail; but reach out to John G. and maybe he can share some of the innovative stuff he is working on. You will be blown away-I certainly was. T5’s trifecta of #MOA , #AmericanDream , and the latest Miami destination will reinvent the the #retail , #entertainment experience. Mall of America American Dream Triple 5
The mall needs to be a theme park perhaps in order to survive.
What was your opinion of MOA? Just a big mall or unique?
