Earlier this year I spoke on a women's panel at the University of Maryland, about the importance of community in computing. Community brings the diversity of people together, to advocate and support each other in the battle to overcome discrimination. There's a sense of belonging that humans crave. This is the catalyst that connects us to the various relationships we develop. Community groups have a vital role when it comes to recruiting and retaining underrepresented groups in computing. One way I've learned to combat Imposter Syndrome is to seek a community of individuals who advocate and support each other. I've been so grateful to experience such a community through being a Rewriting the Code Fellow. "There is room for every woman to win" - Men and Women, let's learn to advocate for each other. Collaborate instead of Compete. #BoundlessBlessing #StudentsofLinkedIn #StudentVoices
UMD students are beyond lucky to have engaged with you. One of my biggest regrets was having not seen you while you were on campus!! Let me know next time you're here so we can grab coffee :)
This is very nice. Growing a community means supporting inclusiveness and this can greatly enhance the potential of whatever we hope to achieve.
Well done, Blessing.
