The bottles, the straws, the bags, on and on and on. Instead opt for reusables. Why are plastics such a problem? It typically takes 400 years for a plastic water bottle to biodegrade, but because a large majority of plastics end up in landfills…it can take double that. To become a more sustainable society, we need to reduce dependence on synthetic materials that are not easily broken down. Pro-tip: Keep re-usable bags/bottles/straws in the car at all times. You will need them! Check out Kleen Kanteen for high quality stainless steel water bottles. Check out Ever Eco for stainless steel reusable straws and reusable produce bags + storage.
I get so jittery when I have to purchase my goods that come in so much plastic... like laundry detergent and to-go containers.
Just tagged you in another post about this. So critical.?
We absolutely need to think of alternatives as soon as possible. These little changes create a ripple effect! Have you read Orb Media investigative article on plastics? Intriguing what they uncovered! Thanks for the pro-tip! Keep them coming!
That definitely is a big problem. It is the size of Texas now out in the Pacific Ocean. If everyone had a container like you have, they could have the restaraunts fill those with the drinks for a lower price. Then just giving you one that gets thrown away. It wouldn't be that hard to start something like that. It would also save a lot of money, because not as many cups would need mass produced anymore for daily use. What to do to get rid of the trash in the ocean. It may be able to be used to make boats, cars, walls, military protective equipment by melting it down and combining it with other materials.
Yes!!! Eliminating straws have been a frequent topic of conversations of late. Our family in El Salvador that run a restaurant in a local beach town stopped using straws a few years ago to minimize the use of plastic (especially in such an unnecessary matter). Jerry Seinfeld said it best when doing a bit: "why do you need a straw? what's it doing to protect you? you're still drinking the same liquid out of the glass". #cultivatesustainability
Thank you for raising awareness.
We all can do better
I've been watching your tips! Thanks for the inspiration for me to launch my own 5 tips in 5 days series on Facebook ads for local businesses. Love using reusable bags and doing whatever I can to help the environment. When I do need to use disposable products, I try to use paper products as often as possible since they biodegrade much faster.
Let's get on it, let's...
