An important post for those not fasting: I'm writing this post at 3am. I've just eaten a hearty meal as I, alongside millions of fellow Muslims all over the world will not be eating or drinking for the next 18 hours. No, not even water. We do this for 1 month every year and we're currently 7 days in. It's a period of self-discipline, self-awareness, appreciation, gratitude and giving, to name a few. I spent 4 years + a summer internship at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and fasted each year during #Ramadan. Working 10 to 12+ hour days without food or water is no mean feat. However, as well as being mentally prepared and disciplined, a little #mindfulness from fellow colleagues can go a long way to making fasting whilst working less challenging. Some of your fasting colleagues will eat by 11pm in order to get enough sleep for the next day, thus going without food and water for 22 hours. Others will sleep from 11pm to 2am, wake up to eat, and then sleep from 3am to 6am and get ready for a long day of work. Tough stuff I'm sure you'll agree. Let's raise awareness and increase mindfulness in the workplace. A little thought can go a long way. :)
I have been Muslim all my life, but it was not until now that I decided to fast. Up until now, to be honest, I have underestimated working/studying and fasting at the same time, so I had less sympathy for the fasting folks. Now I know how "not easy" it is to go without bread and water for 18 hours straight. It is not easy but it is really fulfilling, and effective in teaching you discipline. I wish persistence to all those who is fasting.
Thank you for this. Great to know more about #Ramadan and how to support my colleagues and friends observing the fast. I’ll look out for future posts. I’m training alongside friends who are doing tough gym sessions whilst fasting. I couldn’t be more impressed at their ability to put their body through so much on top of an already challenging time. Much respect.
Fasting teaches us resilience and patience. As a religion of tolerance, I do not think it is very appropriate to ask people to adjust themselves based on our situation. What is the point of fasting to be challenged for improving our resilience and patience, if we go around asking everyone to make it easier for us?
Thank you and waiting for Next Thursday post.
Mashallah very brief and so detailed at the same time.
Great post!! Thank you for the initiative
Much needed post! Thanks for taking such a great initiative to raise awareness this Ramadan!!

6 年I appreciate the effort. But let's agree to disagree. I am fasting but my colleagues are not. To receive kindness is humbling, to expect them to "bend" to my needs is unfair.
