"I would NOT HIRE a young WOMAN" said someone in a comment. That comment received LOTS OF LIKES. That person said further: "If you HIRE a young woman, chances are she'll get pregnant a few times and go on maternity a few times too. Next, she will need time off every time her kids get sick. Eventually, she will quit, because her husband would want her to stay home." This was posted 2 days ago, not 2 centuries ago. People asked me to respond to this. Ok. Let's see on how many points you agree. 1. Parenthood is a joint responsibility, and fathers should split responsibility for career breaks. Career breaks like that should be celebrated, not just tolerated. 2. With birth rates falling in all wealthy nations well below the replacement rate, we all need to make an effort to not let motherhood be a break on a career. 3. Studies have shown that motherhood develops leadership qualities: attention to detail, empathy, emotional intelligence and influence. 4. I used to be young and have that being told in my interviews 1-2 centries ago. Now im 42, and they still think she gonna want another one before she is too old. Just cos I have a uterus doesnt mean im gonna be a mother again. I contributed to giving the workforce a ressource in the future....since I never get the chance to contribute in my lifetime. This is to all u that said no to me... Ill just be my own boss in my own Company, making absolutely no money, but doing what I love. And being with whom i Love, my son.

When the right person is hired because they love the job, are engaged in the wellbeing and are invited to be part of the companie’s expansion, it does not matter if they are male or female, young or mature... It is not about being fare; what matters is creating a culture of collective growth rather than singular greed based controlling management!

can' t agree with you more. but things are different here in China. yes, birth rate is falling significantly, but employers still stick to the point that age matters. i am a middle aged woman but with sound background in terms of working experience and education but i suffered so much age discrimination during the process of job searching. doors are all closed to me. so disappointed!

Could not agree more on motherhood develops leadership qualities: attention to detail, empathy, emotional intelligence and influence. I was one of the 2 pioneers who set up Bangladesh Branch office on behalf of my first Employer KL in 2011. The other was a lady who sacrificed family commitment, apart from Husband and 5 months old kid, full time worked in Bangladesh. Time had told she stayed there much longer than me.

Agree. No hiring women is not a wise idea. Actually I think that is a foolish idea. Or maybe the person who said did this comments is just seeking for some attentions by saying some strange words. Even in China, it is very rare to see people with this ridiculous idea. I’m speak of China just because we need very diligent people here, and most of female are not major for family economy. But still, I never have this situations here.

Can't agree more especially to the last two points with a small correction.Not just motherhood, Parenthood helps develop some of the qualities essential for People Management. In my personal experience I noticed a remarkable increase in my tolerance levels, empathy , listening skills and Emotional understanding while parenting my kid which reflected in my work also. Also, Rightly said, people with a negative bias towards any Gender, Age, Maternity, Career break etc should never be a part of hiring process.
