10,000 YouTube subscribers is the minimum entry requirement to get into their London vlogging studios and facilities. I don’t have anywhere near those numbers, but many the superstars in this photo do - like Khaled Siddiq who has over 120,000 subscribers and several million views. I hung out with these singers, comedians, poets, models, actors, and film makers (almost all of whom are Muslim) to get a flavour of what’s going on, what’s popping in social media, what challenges they face being ethnic and tackling the rise in Islamophobia and hate crimes. Too often in this space: academics, pundits and industry professionals, watch from the sidelines, and don’t know what the halal is really going on. You have to get up and get on down if you wanna be on the scene. My contribution to them: cheerleading, and some pointers on long-term brand strategy. We’re gonna do this more often! Dr John is that rare educator who bridges so many worlds, so yes we need more Dr Js.
