TODAY IS MY 40TH BIRTHDAY The “Big 4-0”. Society might have me believe by now I should be: ?? A senior director/partner in a global company ?? Married with kids ?? A multi-millionaire on the cover of Entrepreneur magazine If not, I’m failing. Falling behind. I am NONE of these things. Nor striving to be. I see clients, friends racing towards constructs of #success they don't even want, in fear of being “late”. But who decided what success is? Who decided what we "should" want? Should chase? What we need to be happy? Who decided what life "should" look like and how we should be living it? Who decided when "late" is? It’s HARD to find/stay in your lane. It requires strength to stay true to you. But only when we live #life on our terms do we experience the freedom and fulfilment we seek. On my 40th birthday: I’m not chasing expectations, I’m chasing experiences. Instead of joining the race, I'm staying in my lane. I'm designing my life around what matters to me. Family, nature, creating, inspiring, life experiences. None of which cost $millions. Don’t let the fear of being "late", "behind", "not enough" cause you to stay in a race you don't want to be in. This really speaks to me. I resigned from a job last year thinking how did I get here... the new year has bought a new job and a new me. I finally feel I am in an environment I can thrive and succeed.

I agree! I also turned 40 last July and like you, I live life on my own terms. I'm single, self-employed and totally content with who I am. It actually takes courage and doing the deep inner work to find one's true self and live in alignment with that. Following the crowd or the race is for those who still didn't find their true selves from underneath the societal ad family conditioning. Life is so rewarding and fulfilling when you find the real you. P.S. I'm a big fan of Bali too!
