Construction workers were largely told to go home during the past three months while the country went into lockdown. Those working on crucial projects deemed essential could continue showing up, but safety concerns abounded as the country ran into a mask shortage. That pessimism has fallen by the wayside as construction projects resume and employees get back to work sites. The construction industry has seen a jump in confidence, driven by an optimistic outlook on job security, career prospects and finances, according to the the sixth edition of the bi-weekly #WorkforceConfidenceIndex. Overall confidence from construction workers and their employers rose from a score of +35 in the beginning of April to +47 two weeks ago, as measured on a scale of +100 (most confident) to -100 (least confident). What do you think the coming months hold for the construction industry? Read more findings here: https://lnkd.in/ee-rBeh ? : Jordyn Dahl
So far business is good! It is on it's way to being great again!
The survey is of employees and not owners correct? First, the actual workers are likely extremely busy right now. When construction started back up after the shutdown, everything was thrown into overdrive. Building owners still wanted their projects completed in a timely manner. The next 6 months will be chaos for anybody would had a backlog prior to Covid-19. But in my opinion there will be a major dip in the beginning of 2021. We are just not seeing a good level of demand for new projects. A lot of our existing backlog was put on permanent hold due to businesses being impacted by Covid-19. Owners are taking a wait and see approach. Many of them were closed for 2 months with no revenue; it is hard to make a large capital investment when you lost 1/6th of your revenue for the year. Many state budgets have been impacted tremendously which will likely result in a downward trend in state projects for at least the coming year. The next 6 months will be very telling. This will either be a sharp dip in demand for new construction followed by a very quick recovery, or this could be the start of a multi year decline.
So happy to hear!!!!
Michael Jones it looks good right now but I look out a 6 months to a year and there are no contracts being signed, architect firms are laying off and downsizing. Not trying to be gloom and doom but as soon as the fed closes the discount window to the big Corps and they stop buying the junk bonds of every little 'living room letterhead" company, you will notice the animals and birds go silent right before the financial asteroid hits main st.... Hank, Ben, Timothy..where are you? We need some help from the Super Friends! My guess is October 2020. It will go down as 10-2020
Out of mask at US after May 2020 should never be issued. Worse scenario of this world pandemic, America is the last to be poorest after other country's in this world. What do you think?
It used to be you could walk into the court house get a building permitt and get started in one day..now it takes 3 weeks a month. Thinkn Im going to start work when the application gets turned in. Lots folk out of work.. Once agian theres an influx of workers claiming to be contractors who aint qualified. This drives down labor prices in residential projects..everyone wants to work..and somethings better then nothing. A day doesnt go by that im not hit up by folks wanting a job. So far I havent had to let anybody go. But Im thinkn if the over all statistics continue to go up in covid cases...undecided and on the fence.
We are very busy and next six months look the same! I
