The internship (or "minternship) is becoming a mid-career pivot move. Increasing numbers of millennials are willing to become interns in their 30s to reskill in order to shift careers into other fields. Many young professionals prioritize happiness and want to have a strong sense of purpose with their jobs. https://lnkd.in/gJ2ZdTJ They want to feel deeply connected to the work they are doing, so they are willing to take pay cuts to pursue an internship that leads them towards their dream job. Contingent work can also be used similarly as the "minternship". Stories like this were a great inspiration to me when I considered my own career change. I was in my 30s when I went back to school to obtain my MBA. During the program, I had an internship in a completely different function and industry. That internship fortunately converted to a full-time role. It was purpose and personal fulfillment that drove me and it is definitely something I see a lot of people have found to be increasingly important in their professional and personal lives. #internship #HKUST #MBA

These people went from executive salaries to the bottom of the ladder to get purpose back into their work. It's pretty drastic, but it shows how valuable purpose can be as motivation for your team.
