William Hill has blamed government restrictions on how much punters can bet on fixed-odds betting terminals for its decision to close 700 shops across the UK. The plan, which puts 4,500 jobs at risk, comes after the bookmaker saw "a significant fall' in gaming machine revenues after new legislation reduced the maximum stake from £100 to £2. According to the BBC, sources said fixed-odd terminals were responsible for more than 50% of turnover in store, particularly in inner-city areas.
