Why time, not money, makes us happy
Most of us spend much of our time working, believing that it will make us money and that money will make us happy in the long run. But we’ve got it all wrong, argues Harvard Business School professor Ashley Whillans. Research consistently shows that the happiest people use their money to buy time. “People who are willing to give up money to gain more free time — by, say, working fewer hours or paying to outsource disliked tasks — experience more fulfilling social relationships, more satisfying careers, and more joy, and overall, live happier lives,” Whillans writes.

To me it’s all about being purposeful with your times and using your efforts to help you cultivate your passion and relationships. many adjust their spending to correlate with increases in pay thus no true increase in long term happiness. Conversely, many claim to value time off but secretly they like the feeling of feeling needed by their boss/customers. I believe in work hard and play hard. I taking epic trips now as i witnessed first hand my father-in-law die from cancer 3 months before his big retirement travel excursion. Personally I pledged to outsource work at my house if I could afford to pay someone and take the time to spend with my family. I do believe when you’ve almost lost your life, you value time more than most and understand every minute is a gift. Carpe diem!
