The San Francisco Bay Area is still the reigning king of venture capital investment, with some $140 billion in startup funding since 2012, according to a recent report from CB Insights. But when it comes to investment growth, a lot of the action is outside the United States. Cities in Europe and Asia are gaining steam. And according to CB Insights, the next global VC investment hub will likely be in China, with Beijing and Shanghai emerging as likely contenders. ? Beijing and Shanghai have both emerged over the past few years as magnets for equity deals in the ed-tech space.? In Beijing, the amount of money flowing to ed-tech providers went from $23 million to $643 million in the last 5 years... number of deals jumped from 5 to 41. The biggest deals in 2017 were focused on ed-tech products and services for children in primary and secondary school, including tutoring.
