Virtual restaurants trending locally
Eating in isn't an option at more than 1000 eateries on Uber Eats' Australian roster, The SMH writes. That's because one in 25 establishments listed on the delivery service's app are “virtual restaurants,” operating exclusively online. Virtual kitchens allow existing restaurants to operate multiple brands – and cuisines – out of the one kitchen, meaning chefs can nimbly add cuisines by relying on their own infrastructure. Uber says that operating out of existing kitchens is more cost-effective than the purpose-built only kitchens its competitor Deliveroo has constructed.
