UK loses its sheen for EU migrants
EU net migration to the UK has dropped to its lowest level in 16 years, according to new ONS figures. The difference between the number of EU nationals arriving and those leaving in the year to June 2019 was 48,000 — the lowest since 2003, before Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia joined the bloc. Experts point to several factors for the decline, including Brexit uncertainty, the lower value of the pound and improving economic prospects in other EU countries.
