The world's biggest carbon emitters

I disagree with this article. It is too simplistic to argue that 20 firms are responsible for one third of carbon emissions. It is wrong to call the extraction of oil and gas as “fossil fuel production”. It is hydrocarbon extraction. How the world uses it is the real issue. Remebember that hydrocarbons is an important raw material for pharmaceuticals and plastics. Hydrocarbon is not inherently evil, our burning of it is the problem. “Big Oil” is not blameless and needs to reform, but let’s look at the individuals, companies and governments that make choices, policies and investments that prioritise burning hydrocarbons (that is when it becomes a fossil fuel) over zero carbon emission options.

The headline says everything, and these corporations and countries knew what was happening and did it anyway. Greed took precedence over even the wellbeing of the earth itself.

Good news can be hard to come by in the climate-reporting world. Here, I report for CityLab that carbon emissions are already falling in 30 major cities, according to new analysis from C40 Cities To limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius, though, the world has to collectively reach "peak" emissions by 2020.

A new research found that while others work deligently on reducing GHG emissions and pollution to make sure there is a future for humanity on this planet, twenty (20) fossil fuel companies are today responsible for more than 30% of the world's CO2 emissions.
