The best and worst big US airports

Interesting article. Of course these claims of "best" and "worst" can often be disputed between organizations, but its comforting to know Phoenix consistently ranks high on customer metrics. We manage to have great connectivity, unique shopping and dining experiences, stellar operational performance (consistently the top performer operationally in AA's hub/gateway network), and close proximity to leisure and business destinations within the Valley of the Sun. That being said, Denver does have superior connectivity as well as a very diversified market share split which enables affordable fares and schedule convenience for the customer as well as an airport authority that is equally dedicated to all carriers without fear of favoritism or unequal investments. https://lnkd.in/gYshJzK

San Diego isn’t considered in this class size, but generally I wasn’t shocked by these results, though while it’s a fine facility, I’m maybe still a little surprised DENVER took the very top spot considering weather issues.

As a Newark based pilot, the changes made at the C concourse in Newark over the past 4 or so years are impressive. Other concourses, however, lag significantly. But the biggest challenge facing Newark is of the government's own making: namely the FAA's decision to eliminate slot controls there two years ago. The result: the most significant delays of any NY area airport and a de facto penalty to United Airlines (full disclosure: my employer). Competing in NY is never easy, and the details may be subtle on a day to day basis, but what has happened amounts to some sizable corporate welfare for AA and Delta, who maintain hubs at JFK and Laguardia.

Sadly, once again, all 3 NY area airports are at the bottom of the list. Luckily, LGA is being rebuilt anew, and JFK revitalization plans are on the table...perhaps in a few years we might see the picture change

WSJ article today ranking US airports. Personally, I rank Detroit near the top as a place to connect (I rarely start there). I would put Minneapolis higher up than it fell, despite a sprawling/confusing layout. Of airports I fly through, the three NYC airports and Chicago richly deserve to be at the bottom of the barrel, where they are. LAX is also a hellhole (especially the prison-camp-guard TSA setup) and deserves bottom of the barrel too, although somewhat improved recently (restaurants and terminal areas). I recently flew through Denver...not impressed. Overcrowded, confusing, poor signage, and overpriced rental cars. I agree Atlanta is surprisingly efficient, considering its huge size and flight volume. https://lnkd.in/esgkJHs
