Second shutdown hits small business
Small business owners that had taken out loans, laid off workers and hunkered down thought the worst of the coronavirus outbreak was finally over, bringing back their employees and instituting new safety protocols. Now, as new cases climb across much of the U.S., many are being told to shutter once more for an indefinite period of time. For some small businesses, the second round of lockdown has meant permanently shutting down. As major employers, the closures will impact their communities for years to come, dragging down the economic recovery.

This is the issue with rushing to reopen too early. Had state governments listened to medical experts businesses could have endured a longer initial shutdown and we could be successfully reopening right now. Now small businesses are forced to endure another shutdown that’s likely going to be much, much longer than it would if we had done it right the first time.
