SAT introduces new adversity score
To correctly identify the socioeconomic backgrounds of those taking the SAT exam, the College Board will assign an adversity score to every student. Fifteen factors will be considered when calculating the score, including crime rate and poverty levels of where the student comes from. The College Board said it was introducing the new system after a trial at 50 schools last year, as well as concerns over “income inequality influencing test results for years,” according to The Wall Street Journal.
- William “Rick” Singer, the alleged person behind the scheme to help wealthy students cheat their way into elite universities, encouraged his applicants to misrepresent their race, anonymous sources told The Wall Street Journal.

A topic that will certainly draw debate on both sides. However, I suggest that this will only continue to mask the real problem with our education system from K-12. We should be restructuring K-12 curriculum's to be more personalized towards natural ability segments of students. Each of us has talents and gifts that need to be identified early and allowed to progress. Does it really matter any more if our youth is forced to learn History, Math, English, Social Studies? Specialized tracks focusing on innate talents would provide every student the opportunity to excel at their natural skill. General education studies at the college level is just a way for schools to make money. General knowledge can be obtained by researching, reading, exploring outside of the class room. We should place an emphasis on specialization early and produce innovators, developers, creators, etc. Then SAT/ACT testing won't even be necessary.? ??
