Robots answer restaurant job ads
Fast-food restaurants are turning to robots for help because they can’t find enough humans to fill the roles, reports The Wall Street Journal. Chains including CaliBurger, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Saladworks are looking to automated innovations to help overcome the tight labor market — with 844,000 unfilled positions recorded in April. The move comes amid record-low unemployment levels, which sit at just 6% for restaurant workers. Bucking expectations, the rise in robotics isn’t affecting the number of workers being employed in the industry, with a rate of 18.4 workers per establishment up from 17.4 in 2007, per the Journal.
