Pret a Manger has reached a deal to buy smaller rival Eat in a bid to ramp up its vegetarian and vegan offerings. The sandwiches chain says it plans to turn as many of the 90 Eat sites as possible into Veggie Prets "in response to growing consumer demand for more vegetarian and vegan options on the high street." Shares of vegan burger maker Beyond Meat have climbed since their Wall Street launch earlier this month as plant-based food has become more popular. No price has been disclosed.
