Pompeii Ferris wheel plan draws ire
A proposal to build a 60-metre Ferris wheel next to Pompeii has been hit with criticism. Conservationists claim the wheel violates “the cultural values of the archaeological area” and infringes on a buffer that has been put in place to protect fragile excavations. The deal to build the Ferris wheel is worth around €4 million, per The Local. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Italy’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing some 3.5 million visitors to the fragile area each year.
