Ottawa tornadoes cut power to thousands
Tens of thousands of people in Ottawa don’t have power in the aftermath of two tornadoes that destroyed hundreds of homes late Friday afternoon. On Sunday, four people were still hospitalized with storm-related injuries. Residents and volunteers are clearing debris left by the two twisters which Environment Canada says reached 265 kilometres an hour. Power is gradually being restored to more than 200,000 hydro customers in Ontario and Quebec, but 50,000 in Ottawa still had no electricity late Sunday afternoon.
