Employers are dropping skill and degree requirements in order to attract a larger pool of job candidates, reports The Wall Street Journal, especially in cities with the lowest levels of unemployment — such as Dallas or Louisville. An extra 1 million jobs were opened up to candidates last year with "no experience necessary.”
Skills for tomorrow are different than skills that were required for the last 20 years however the war on talent for companies is real. Some skills can be taught but other fundamentals and requirements for tomorrow can not - hire wisely! #recruiting #careercounseling #skills #emergingtechnologies
More companies looking to fill jobs ranging from hotel manager to coder to auto mechanic are dropping degree and work-experience requirements. Clearly college education and experience were used to weed out applicants. The jobs must not have needed either.
I've been at Robert Half a little over 21 years. This is the craziest market I've seen. Many of my clients are showing their understanding of the market by being flexible on the skills/technical requirements of a job and focusing more on the candidates that are a good culture/soft skills match. "We can train how to do this job." Good read if your company needs ideas on how to hire in this crazy labor market!
