New York Attorney General resigns
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has quit amid physical assault allegations, reports The New York Times. Schneiderman's resignation came only hours after the publication of a New Yorker article which detailed four women's accusations of abuse. In a statement, Schneiderman said, "While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this critical time." Schneiderman has "become an outspoken figure in the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment," reported The New Yorker. As New York's highest-ranking legal official, Schneiderman instigated legal action against Harvey Weinstein in February, and has demanded compensation for Weinstein's alleged victims. On Monday night, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said they were investigating the allegations against Schneiderman.
